First of the Week

Pinstripe over poplin over black. The most direct thing in the wardrobe.

From The Quiet Office

Styling notes

A fine pinstripe reads as texture rather than pattern from any real distance, which is why it can sit next to a plain black trouser without the two arguing.

The shirt is oversized on purpose. Tucked, with the cuffs out past the jacket sleeve, it stops the tailoring looking borrowed from a man's wardrobe.

Why it works

  • Charcoal above, black below, with white in the middle to break the column.
  • The boot heel is low enough to walk in and high enough to hold the trouser line.
  • Gold is the only warm note, and it is at eye level.

Swap it

Pumps instead of boots and the same look covers an evening it was not planned for.
